Making Waves…. Google Wave

Filed under: Uncategorized — anuragmathur @ 1:01 PM

Finally got my Google Wave account, thanks to a friend and colleague of mine. And what do I do with it?

The first thing that I liked was that no longer would I be forwarding a lot of email to a lot of people. I can just create a new wave to share the data and the entire conversation that follows on this new wave (fwd) would be part of the wave and available to all the participants. This saves a lot of data center space to store the emails and also the conversation is available to all the members of the wave.

Another interesting thought with this whole new wave thing is that the content that can be shared is heterogeneous. I can start a wave with a youtube video and add a game to the same wave. Multiple people can play the game on-line simultaneously!

These features combined form the basis of so called collaboration softwares available at a very high cost in the market. Google is providing this for free. Google has brought collaboration into the hands of common internet user. Students can collaborate on projects, small enterprises can do without external collaboration tools. Heck, this tool makes even sending emails unnecessary. Just start a new wave with the person with whom you want to converse or edit an existing wave with that person.

Some people like me who remain online 24×7 find this a boon.
